The Long And Winding Road

Gerry Hamann is a Maine-based screenwriter and storyteller whose path to writing has been anything but conventional.

After decades working in construction, primarily as a bricklayer, manufacturing, business, real estate, and Maine's working waterfront, Gerry discovered screenwriting and quickly found the creative pursuit that had apparently been waiting for him all along.

Since then, he has written more than sixteen feature-length screenplays spanning thrillers, drama, science fiction, horror, romance, family stories, and holiday films.

His stories often begin with ordinary people suddenly confronted by extraordinary circumstances—a father faced with an impossible sacrifice, a widow discovering a second chance at love, a detective uncovering betrayal within his own department, or a family confronting something they cannot explain.

While the genres may change, Gerry's approach remains the same: characters first, story always, and heart at the center.

Gerry also brings pieces of his own life into many of his screenplays—drawing from people he has known, places he has lived and worked, and experiences collected over a lifetime. Sometimes it's a character, sometimes a setting, and sometimes just a small moment, but there's usually a little bit of Gerry somewhere in the story.

Many of his stories are inspired by the landscapes, small towns, working communities, and character of his home state of Maine. His writing combines cinematic storytelling with grounded characters, emotional stakes, suspense, and a strong sense of place.

For Gerry, writing isn't about staying in one genre. It's about finding the next story worth telling—and then seeing where it leads.
